    Rough times
    Sheesh.

Ok. Well right at the moment, my email has been hacked. Not sure what the deal is, have changed my password.... but if you got email from me recently, it wasn't from me, unless I had my name in it (Kajm).

On top of that, two really rough weeks at work. Coming home dead tired every night, needing to crash way earlier than Thunderwing, who often can't even sleep when she does come to bed, even after a hard day's work.

And finally... had to deal with a scum bitch who had been hounding me at work. I tried to ignore her for a very long time, to no avail... she is now GONE. I continue to work. And I will be there for a long, Long time.

And my writing Muse is back in operation.

It has been a very mixed time lately.

My friend, Kan: We shall be in touch soon. Sorry it is taking so long.

    Work Part III

Was Wednesay any better? I don't think so. I'm missing the ending scripts, I think I mentioned ONE of the five products in one phone call.... customers call with little time on their hands and I NEED time to work it all out... I won't even get into the Idiots.

I made three sales yesterday, two internet, one phone services / lines. I am QUITE certain that all three of those people will have complaints down the road, likely by this time next week. At one point I was so stressed that things began to blur. People ask questions and suddenly I CANNOT remember where to find the information! And part of that problem is, I should KNOW some of it by now!

I am wasting everyone's time. And there are still two days to get through in this week. Then another week with floor support... then I am pretty much on my own. I think I'll be pretty much OUT the door by then.

    Home. Work.

They finally got the logins to work for us, so yesterday was my first day on the phone. *sighs* and aside from two phones calls (out of about 12) where I felt like I really Helped the people I spoke to, yesterday feels like Failure.

A long time ago I learned to leave work at work. Which in a way has made it difficult for me to study things at home (not to mention, even the website of the company we do business for, has made it near impossible to find some information). I just Can't seem to Want to study when at home. There's too much Other stuff that needs to be done at home...

I want to be Home. I am stuck with a schedule that makes it pretty much certain that the Only time I have with :iconthunderwing:, is the weekends. And a weekend should begin on a Friday evening, Damn it, NOT Saturday morning!

Feeling a bit Stunned right now. Will I really be spouting out details and dollar amounts with ease, a month from now?

The books go back to the library this weekend. NO time for reading for a while.

But I shall stick with this job. This is for Thunder's and my future. We do OK with her salary, but with both of us working, at least One dream has a chance of coming true.

I just want to get Past this feeling

    More later.

    Troubled times...
    Where to begin.....

Well now. Comments I've heard from other people in the job market:

'They (the government) are trying to make all jobs in this region, Temp jobs.'

'St. **** (the largest local city) has lost over 55,000 jobs in the past few years.'

' (paraphrased) It makes life SO much easier for the corporations if they don't have to pay benefits!'

.... of course, I will not comment on the fact that Southern Ontario is run by Liberal (' progressive!' government... you know, Power to the People, we're here for the people and the Conservatives aren't, and all that.

Well, Thunderwing, at least, has good, consistent, upwardly-mobile work. We do have One industry in this region that has people working year 'round- and as her experience there increases, so does her pay, and eventually so does her position.

Of course I do work at least half of each year- but as I say, it is all temp work. BUT- we Both need to be working full time, if we are ever to have that Hobby farm and the exotic pet rescue. It is rather difficult to do such work out of the house we are currently living in. You know the weird thing? We could get that hobby farm Now. IF we wanted to forgo our retirement finances. Within 10 feet of me there's about $200K worth of assets, and that's only the half of it-

But like I say, we can only do One of those things, so long as I can only get temp work. Thanks Libs!

But things are still going along fairly well. We recently got into raising rabbits- and have already recovered the cost of the two pairs we picked up. Pet sales run several hundred a month. With both of us being avid collectors in certain areas, we are constantly finding items that win us fair sums on eBay- such as a 50-cent teddy bear who earned us $130...

I just have to learn to stop worrying overmuch- at least in the short run. Eh, Katarthis?

I can't help but see troubled times coming, for reasons as much Global as local. Too many people, in the US, in Canada, in Europe- seem to favor the Tyrants, the oppressors, the misogynists (sp)... and we seem to be headed for a White House filled with like-minded people, who refuse to see the obvious threats in favor of those 'threats' which will bring them into greater and ever greater power Over the People- and by the time the People, the vast majority of whom are more concerned (and partially, Rightly so) about their families and futures... by the time they see through the mega-scams that are being put up by those people, they'll be in much worse position to Stop those people, possibly much too late to stop them...

But as Katarthis can tell you, I worry too much ;)

I just would prefer that the chaos I see coming, didn't happen until after my lifetime. Because WE are going to suffer for sins WE did not commit- and those these people claim to be wanting to help, are going to fall even worse by the way.

So there's a Food Crisis coming, and it is going to hit hard This Year?

Then why do some on the Liberal side of the Canadian government, want farms to stop using fertilizers? And are working to force the issue?

January high temp records have been broken? GLOBAL WARMING!!!!?!?!... just don't mention that those high temp records in many cases date back to 30 years before the car was invented, and oil had only recently been discovered in Pennsylvania.

Feh. *sighs* as I have said before, I guess I have to focus on taking care of My OWN, hope that my friends are taking care of their own, and both they and myself can hunker down, try to forget what is being done to the rest of the world, and get the things done that WE want to do (before the Right to do those things is taken away from us- 'tis ' Progressive,' dontcha know).

Kat: I don't think the people aiming for power- at least, the ones I am concerned about- are going to be very conducive to our type of writings. 'Diversity' is what they want it to be, and I suspect it won't include the likes of us, Ever. Get your stuff published before that time comes.

btw, I am taking my St. John's Wort ;)

Still not sure about that job, Kark... Thinking on it.

When does the Keepon toy come out!?!
    'Cause I Want One!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3g-yrjh58ms

This little guy is so neat! And quite a bit more than a dancing daisy or whatnot. No, this guy has a couple big extras going for him: Visual recognition, for one, plus he analyzes the music he is hearing and then developes a dance for it!

This would be such a neat toy!

There are several videos posted along with the one I gave the link for. I think people should start writing this guy and get this thing in production! What do you think?

But you wouldn't have it any other way because you thrive in conflict and will know what needs to be done to take care of those around you. Quick update on Winery job
Very quick. I will do a better job of describing things later on. However:

The job is Shift, and rotates Every week. Not fun. Especially when you consider the following:

It is Seven Days A Week. So- come home from Afternoon shift (3pm to 11:30 pm) Sunday night. Go Back to work at 7am Monday morning. Next weekend... to bed at 4 in the afternoon, up at 9 to be back at work by 11pm. The week after that is the Only decent break: home by 8:30 Sunday morning, begin 3pm Monday afternoon.

    Until December.

    Getting myself in gear, Finally?
I've grown seriously tired of the Temp job route. Somehow we managed to move into a region where jobs are slowly dying, and no one is willing to hire on full-time or for decent pay, I suppose because they'd go belly-up in a rush if they did.

At least greenhouse work is ok. I'm happy to do solid, hard work that at least keeps me moving around. I'd prefer to be behind a computer like I had been for 23 years, but outside of certain areas such jobs are few and far between. And I have come to Hate factory work. (And Thunder says I am clearly worth more than minimum wage).

We're not in bad shape. Thunderwing makes a decent income, we have a number of irons in the fire elsewhere (pets to pet shops, house-sitting, eBay). We have collections of various items that come to almost $100,000, And if we absolutely needed to, I could bring up the contents of my various IRA's from the States- to the tune of $110,000.

But I'd rather not. By the time I retire in 17 years that will have least doubled, probably tripled.

In any case, I am finally considering falling back on a couple of possibilities. One neighbor does 'volunteer' work, which apparently pays a fair bit, enough for him to buy a new car and pay for all its' expenses. Not sure I believe that but I do enjoy driving about, love to explore, and so may as well get paid for it by helping out older people. And it might be enough to keep us moving forward. Like I say, we have plenty of cash in various forms (I don't even know what Thunder has outside of the immediate, and I am in three people's wills), but it is just Barely enough- and we want to upgrade someday.

The second possibility is the call center where Karkovice works. That, too, is shift work, but I suspect it would be easier to deal with than pulling plastic parts out of a machine every 53 seconds, on your feet 8 hours a night.

And of course, there is the writing and drawing/artwork. Said artwork, if I am diligent enough, will eventually become a web-comic, with whatever limited potential there is for income. Writing... I've been developing my characters and storylines for 30 years. Past time to begin pumping them out, and I Know I can write a good story. Just ask Katarthis.

Anyway. Currently not working, but plenty of work To Do *g* And I better get to it.

    Frustrating

Eh. Not even sure where to begin this one.

Work... is not happening. Or it is, but...

Right now, I am working through a temp agency. A number of temp agencies, really. And I have a number of job alerts coming my way every day, in email, from both government sites and Workopolis.

But none of it ever leads to anything Permanent. And the jobs that do last me a good chunk of time- say, 8 to 12 weeks- are few and far between. Right now, I've been off work for most of the past three weeks. I think sometimes this would not bother me, because I am getting a great deal done around here: painting the back porch, taming up the hamsters and gerbils for the pet shops, keeping on top of the house chores...

But this isn't one of those times. While we are doing OK with one income, I know that, the longer I am off work, our finances will slowly begin to go Backwards. It can only last so long (12 months?). If I could have a steady income, even if it was just enough to cover the mortgage, we'd be fine.

However working as a Temp is screwy as hell. If you never need to fall back on that, NEVER do so. Because you are on their beck and call. A half dozen times this week I have passed up work, because they just don't give enough notice. You've been up all day, been working about the house, outside in the sun (90-degree days lately), your strength already flagging by mid-afternoon- and That is when they call with a night shift!

A night shift. You've been up all day and they want you to be able to work all night, with at best 4 hours of sleep in between. What kind of advance notice is that?

But that is all that is coming my way. Not the big blocks of work which I would be far more comfortable with. Just one-night stands (literally), and who knows when the next one is coming along?

Well, I must keep trying. If I can get good hours on a day, I will take them. Meantime... There is another potential bit which I am looking into.

There is a company based in our town which deals with redeemed coupons. They punch in the person's name, how much was paid, coupon number, how much was saved, whatever... or I should say, You do. On your own comp at home. They provide the software and you do as much as you can handle each week. It pays so much per item.

I like the idea. I can work at it until I grow bored or fatigued, then take time away from it and take care of things around the house. If the time of day is not a factor, those mornings I wake up Waaaay early, would see me sitting at the comp, punching these in.

I know. It sounds Boring. But it IS legit work: all this stuff goes into a database which is used to track trends, advertising, whatnot.

And it will pay the mortgage.

I'd much rather have the big blocks of time, several times a year, and be earning twice as much. But we shall see how this goes for a time... I hope they contact me soon.

    Rant ended!

Not sure why we re-installed ICQ, BUT:

It is becoming more and more of a problem.

This comp is Very old, 6 years as of May. We had done a reformatting to solve some problems, fall of last year... and then, for some reason I cannot recall, we put ICQ back on.

ICQ Lite, that is. Only problem is, we were not able to completely eliminate the Original version of ICQ that was put on 6 years ago.

Now, when one turns on the comp... Both versions try to load, even though the first one is mostly deleted. And we Cannot change the settings on Lite so that it won't load when the comp is turned on, because the old version still turns it on- and there is NO way to access whatever is left of the original controls.

And when ICQ is loaded... turning it off screws up the comp. TOTALLY. As in, freezing everything and forcing one to reboot and run error correction programs.

One has to wait while the comp is booting up, and shut Q off before it can fully activate. That is a Royal Pain.

This comp is getting Old. Things like that are liable to Kill it faster.

Not sure yet, but I think we may well try to eliminate Q entirely from this comp- and not sure it will ever be loaded onto the New comp, whenever that comes around.

    ----

Two job possibilites being looked into this morning. More later!

    Work again?

Looks like I shall be taking up at a greenhouse north of St. Catherines in about 10 days. Not 100% sure, and the job is Seasonal, but hell, three months of pay helps.

I'd rather work at the greenhouse my wife works at, but the owner pretty much sticks with hiring the locals... my wife is there because she is Very good at what she does.

And! Two house-sitting jobs coming up. That will take me well towards a $1000 by itself.

Just hope whatever work I get, helps me sleep at night. Even with putting in 4 hours at the greenhouse yesterday, my sleep was a total disaster last night. Woke up at least 20 times, can't focus on things, not in the greatest mood...

    Hmmm.
    Various stuff today.

'Bambi' is being interesting reading. Felix Salten writes quite well. If you want a.... decent idea of how animals think, I recommend it.

Nothing like the movie. The movie is a Joke in comparison.

    ----

Well, the latest storm was a bust, but it will keep me shoveling for a good half hour. Nice to see the temps start to cycle upwards.

    ----

Sleep is being Seriously screwed up again. I'm suprised :iconthunderwing: can sleep at night, the way I've been bouncing. Fortunately it looks like I may finally get some kind of work that will last more than 4-8 weeks. Maybe.

    ----

The Pony Room is painted; now we are securing the display mediums needed to hang up several hundred ( a thousand? More?) MLPs. But the house is still a Disaster due to moving all the boxes of MLPs out of that room- it looks like we just moved in.

    ---

It is being SO hard to stay away from things involving the 'P' word. I keep an eye on things... but I have to stay away otherwise. Too much else to do, a Life to Live...

    ---

The desire to practice my drawing is slowly gaining ground. Going to Need it...

    ---

Oh yeah! We got a pair of Gerbils this past weekend. One is cinnamon and the other is silver, colors we didn't even know existed... their offspring shall be added to the list of animals we are selling the pet shops. And we now have five new litters of dwarf hamsters, our second female Black Bear hamster is about to have her litter, we sold the four babies we got from the other mother... that was $40, nice! If we can keep this up and expand a bit more, we should be doing about $100 - $150 a month on pets.

    ---

And that is it for now. Lots to do today. Later!

PS~ I really Hate sleepless nights. They bring negative thoughts with them, which are hard to shake. I have to wonder how much of the Depressions I go through, has to do with sleep deprivation.

PPS~ Kark, haven't heard from you in a while. Did you see about the big blizzard in St. John's?

    First big Winter storm?
Looks like we may get Slammed for Valentine's day. You can thank :iconkatarthis: for that one- he sends all his bad weather straight up into our neighborhood :P

Buffalo is not too far to the East of us, and they get slammed constantly- in fact, some places in Western NY got upwards of Ten Feet of snow last week. Now, due to our position between two of the Great Lakes, we get to see all these monster storms rear up and head out for those guys- but we usually get very little of it. In fact, I'd be surprised if we have gotten 20 inches since the beginning of December (you would not Believe how deep the weather site we use, buries the stats pages. I've been looking for them for five minutes already...)

Most of the Lake effect snow misses us about 80% of the time, otherwise we'd be seeing at least five Feet of snow by now. Well, tomorrow is going to make that up a bit: they are calling for 10-12 inches across the region (Thanks Kat!), with blowing and drifting snow for Wednesday.

That's fine. I shall stay on top of it. But I will say this: Nothing is going to stop me from picking up those lobsters for Valentine's Day. Nothing! :D

    Lots to do. Later!

Painting the Pony Room (and other things)
Aha! The first of many new entries that do Not mention politics.

You heard me! No politics. No mention of politics. You won't even see the word Politics, ever again.

    So! First things first:

This past week has been the coldest of this winter, with night-time temps down to around Zero F or a bit below. We are in a Major Lake Effect area, but just right on the convergence point for three different Great Lakes. So oft times, we get a few inches of snow here and there, while cities 60-70 kilometers away, get slammed with a foot at a time.

I mention this only because of our winter project: setting up the Pony Room. Why is it called the Pony Room? Because my wife is a My Little Pony collector. That's one of our 'Irons in the fire' that I mentioned elsewhere: Ponies. Coins (Gold and Silver). Antiques. Windstone statuary, among others. And one item which creates controversy :P which may well be worth as much as all the rest combined.

Anyway! Painting the Pony Room. The previous owner of this house left us a mess. Sloppy painting that dripped over both door frames and the window frame. Painting over the original hardwood baseboards. Damn. We figure this stuff is worth at least $8 a foot, and she painted over it. So how do we strip that off...?
Sanded down holes and cracks in the painting the previous owner did. Putting down primer... on the second coat, we make a discovery: one corner is so cold, the primer won't set. We've got to get that part of the room heated up and done properly before this weekend....

Other news: One of our Black Bear hamsters has had her first litter, seven babies. Once they get old enough to be handled (three weeks), :iconThunderwing: plans to mate the other one. This could well work out to about $100 a month of income, provided we can get that fourth pet shop.

The Russian Dwarf hamster situation goes quite well, also, selling about 40 a month. Next on the roster: Siamese fancy rats.

*ponders* And that be it for the moment. *moves on to other tasks*

PS~ finally coming back to LJ.

3,718 comic books up for sale, from 1982 to 1997

I finally got the catalogue online:

    http://s105.photobucket.com/albums/m203/RandomClutter/

I don't like PhotoBucket but it still works better than Yahoo photo album, which allows one to see the page but not large enough of a format to read it properly.

If you wish to see the catalogue, follow the link, then hover the mouse over each page. This gives you the title of the page, which gives at least a fair indication of what major titles are on that page (Thor, X-Men, etc). Click the page to be able to read it; double-click that to get pretty close to a full-sized image.

The comics are available to anyone who wants them. I don't care if you are my best friend or pretty much hate my guts for my views, if you want a particular comic or two, send me a note and we shall negotiate.

Anything marked with an asterisk is, in my mind, worth at the very least the cover price, and in some cases quite a substantial bit more, depending on what the subject matter is- mostly, major turning points in the Marvel Universe history.

Oh yes: this is all hand-written. Enjoy! :P

    My Day

    ...started at 2am.

But that's not what I came to write about. This, is My Day:

I'm stuck around the house, especially today, 'cause it is raining and our one decent umbrella isn't all that decent *g* Now you'd think that should not matter because I've hiked over a thousand miles of the Appalachian Trail and I ought to be good for any kind of weather- but I prefer to be comfortable!

Reason I am stuck around the house #2 - no job. It has been a year and....6 months, since I got my work permit (I'm in Ontario, Canada). I've had half a dozen jobs since then, but most of them have been temp jobs. The only one that lasted any length of time (4 months) earned me a back injury. Eh. I keep looking. I sometimes think my being American is held against me when it comes to jobs around here. I mean, 23 Years of office skills gotta be worth something! Part of that working for TV Host, which was Major competition to TV Guide!

However I am currently plastering the town with house-sitting posters. Actually, Pet-sitting posters. I am good with animals. Good enough that the couple of people who have hired me on so far, plan to keep hiring me on as they go on future trips. Works for me. Seeing as Canada has a Lot of 'Snow Geese,' I figure to be hearing from any number of people soon. Income is income.

Another source of income: dwarf Russian hamsters. This morning I was handling the babies of 4 different litters- 27 babies in all. We begin handling them at about a week old, as it plays a Huge role in how well their temperments turn out. The pet stores love 'em. We sell about 30 a month right now, and may have to expand the business. We also do Roborovski hamsters, which full grown are about the size of a pocket pokemon (picachu) game. They are beginning to catch on, and we can get three times as much!

And then the comic books. I am amazed at the shape they are in- some are totally MINT! And some of them are going for scores of dollars, if not more. I may not be working but I am sitting on several thousand dollars worth of comics.

And we have other irons in the fire: eBay is a biggie. I've got items dating back to the late 1800s that are going to end up on there...

So. All that and housework make my day. And cooking *g* However I think Thunder's getting pizza tonight. After very little sleep I am not going Near a frying pan.

So that's it for now. No more political stuff! in my journal. Check my Blog if you want to see that. http://earthshattered.blogspot.com/

I do get snarky and some language, but not too bad. I hope.

Now. More coffee... I hope I don't pay for it in the way of another rotten headache.........

I haven't posted here in months. Must see how everyone is doing....
